Having Mosaic Down Syndrome and Living the Life
My name is Claire-May Minett, I live in the North West of England and I have a rare condition called Mosaic Down Syndrome.
For me it doesn’t hinder my success as I have done lots of different and cool things that others may not be able to do. For instance : going to America on my own for the IMDSA conferences, Go Ape, Modelling on a catwalk, working in television, radio and theatre etc.
I do not believe that it’s all about me. With my condition I have learnt to support others and give inspiration to help them see that we can lead full lives just like everyone else. I have my faults and I embrace them to help me to understand myself and others better. You wouldn’t think it but I actually am 41 years old. I affectionately believe that my condition makes me look younger than I actually am.
My role as Self Advocate for the International Mosaic Down Syndrome Association helps me to see a lot of my favourite country America and with it I have built my own family of friends who I adore. With this role I have been able to give inspirational speeches at the conferences which is held in different states every year and at many other disabilities aimed events like the World Down syndrome Congress and Learning Disability England.
I am a big film, tv and music buff. I love Stephen King adaptations, horror and comedy films and I love Bluegrass and Pop Rock music. In the new year I have new ventures that I cant wait to get my teeth into. Being busy helps me to progress and I love doing different things every day. If anyone is reading this, I’d like to tell you that you’re important to this world in some way, find your niche and you can go far.
